Scott Skiles has decided to move on from the Orlando Magic, after only one year with the team.

Despite getting a head coaching job with his former team, Scott Skiles has decided one year was enough before stepping down from the club. Skiles has bounced all over the league as a head coach, known as a demanding disciplinarian. The former point guard racked up a 35-47 record this season, finishing last in the Southeast Division.

The Magic were not expected to be contenders for much this season, but did show some promise with the duo of Elfrid Payton and Victor Oladipo. Considering the young nucleus, another lottery pick and the beautiful weather, this vacancy won’t be very hard to fill.

Of course, Skiles taking his time on this decision has put Orlando at a disadvantage. The Magic could have made a run at Tom Thibodeau, but he’s gone to the Minnesota Timberwolves. Orlando might make a hard push to land Frank Vogel, who did not get his contract renewed in a surprising move by the Indiana Pacers last week.

Skiles had previous coached with the Phoenix Suns, Chicago Bulls and Milwaukee Bucks before coming to Orlando this season. He had reached the playoffs six times before in his head coaching career, but never was able to amass a conference finals run.
