125. The Atlanta Hawks are entering a pivotal offseason for the immediate future of their franchise. Al Horford and Kent Bazemore are both free agents and Jeff Teague has seemingly worn out his welcome with Hawks fans. Patrick McCaw isn’t a franchise savior by any means, however he can fill the void that was left when DeMarre Carroll secured his big payday from the Toronto Raptors.

McCaw is the prototypical “3 and D” wing and after posting 14.7 points, 5.1 rebounds and 2.5 steals for UNLV last season he decided to take the plunge to the NBA. The 20-year old is far from a finished product and he likely won’t be an immediate producer in The Association, but with some development and hard work with the Hawks staff he could be a rotational guy by his sophomore season in the NBA.

McCaw is a bit of a gamble this early but he’s not merely a shooter as he displayed playmaking abilities last season with a 22.7 percent assist rate at UNLV, which is quite impressive for a 6-7 wing who is mainly known as a scorer and defender. Players who come into the league with at least one NBA skill are usually more well off than those who come in with numerous “fringe NBA skills” and McCaw has that with his defensive abilities.
