The Arizona Coyotes wrote a letter to the city of Glendale saying the plan on leaving the city for nearby Phoenix as soon as they possibly can.

For the last 13 seasons, the Arizona Coyotes have called the city of Glendale home. For the last two seasons, the relationship has been rocky after the city terminated its original lease for the team to play there, instead signing a two year deal that cast doubt on how long the Coyotes would call Glendale home.

Now, it appears the franchise is ready for a full scale divorce. Arizona Coyotes president Anthony LeBlanc wrote a letter to the city manager of Glendale saying, in no uncertain terms, the team plans on heading out of town as soon as they can:

"“The Coyotes have every intention of leaving Glendale as soon as practicable.”“For our business to continue to rely on the whims of a majority of seven elected Council members would be irresponsible of me to the point of risking financial ruin and the alienation of our most important assets — Arizona Coyotes fans and our sponsors,”"

Coyotes offical have said they would like to have a plan in place to make an announcement about where they will call home before the NHL Draft in late June. LeBlanc told the Arizona Republic that talks with the city of Phoenix about a new arena there are coming along better than expected.

The Arizona Coyotes moved to Phoenix before the 1996-97 season (formerly playing as the Winnipeg Jets) and spent their first seven seasons sharing an arena with the NBA’s Phoenix Suns.
