DraftKings MLB Picks For May 13

There are 14 games tonight, so that means a lot of stats to go through, and a lot of tough decisions to make. The Cubs and Pirates are playing a matinee at Wrigley, but everyone else is fair game! Who should you spend on? Let’s hit the stats!

More from DraftKings

NOTE: these picks are based solely on statistics. Some players have never faced their opponents, or have very little experience against them. I am not saying that none of those are good picks. The highest scorer of the day could be someone with no experience against his opponent. This is based on statistical analysis only. If you have a gut feeling, then by all means, follow that. This is not an exact science. The best lineups usually have a mix of proven stats and hot players.

Ross Stripling has never faced the Cardinals, so you wont see any Redbirds in this edition.  Julio Teheran has a limited history against the Royals, and also poses a big risk. Junior Guerra has gone six innings in each of his first two starts, and could be worth a look against San Diego. There are just no stats to support it.

Best Bets:

Chris Sale ($12,300): Sale is the only pitcher with a price in the five digit range tonight, but there is a reason. The Yankees are only hitting .218 off of Sale in 78 at bats with two homers, five RBI, and a whopping 30 strikeouts. Add that the to fact that his opponent is youngster Luis Severino, and this looks like a game on cruise control for Sale.

Rich Hill ($9,700): Yes, that is a big price tag, but Hill has a 2.39 ERA and is racking up nearly a strikeout per inning. When you add in his dominance of the Rays, he may be worth it. The Rays are just 5-35(.143) with one RBI and 11 strikeouts off of Hill. The potential is here for big points.

Matt Harvey ($7,400): Yes, Harvey is struggling some this year, but not this much. I understand that he is at Coors Field, but the ball can’t fly out of the park if no one hits it! The Rockies are a pathetic 8-54(.148) with one RBI and 14 strikeouts off of Harvey. I’m following the past stats.

Honorable Mention:

Steven Wright ($9,100): Wright is off to a great start (3-3, 1.52 ERA) this year. His performance against the Astros is equally great. The Astros are only 6-30(.200) off of Wright with ten strikeouts. That’s one every three at bats. And the one guy who has the homer and RBI off of him, Jon Singleton, is in the minors. This could be a really nice game for Wright.

Jeff Samardzija ($9,500): Samardzija has held the Diamondbacks to a .235 average in 51 at bats with 14 strikeouts. They have not taken him deep, but they do have six RBI (Jean Segura has three). Given how dreadful Miller has been this year, Samardzija has a good shot at a win, and with the strikeout potential, he may be worth it.

Dark Horses:

Justin Verlander ($7,100): Yes, Verlander is considered a dark horse now, especially against a team like the Orioles, who have never met a baseball they couldn’t punish. However, Verlander has held the Orioles to a .217 average in 180 at bats with seven homers, 25 RBI, and 50 strikeouts. J.J. Hardy, who is on the DL, accounted for three of those homers and nine of those RBI. It’s looking even better for Verlander!

Chris Tillman ($7,900): Still don’t trust Verlander? Maybe you trust his counterpart, Chris Tillman. Tillman has had a rough go against a lot of the league, but not against the Tigers. They are hitting only .238 with two homers and nine RBI in 126 at bats with 27 strikeouts. He wont be heavily played, and could come through with a good game if you are willing to take a chance.

Shelby Miller ($6,000): Miller has been a disaster this year, but he has fared very well in his career against the Giants. They are hitting just .178 off of him in 90 at bats with two homers and five RBI, but he only has 14 strikeouts. Don’t expect a huge game, but he could be a great value at this price.

You have heard our FanDuel experts Matt Rogers and Brian Tulloch talk about “stacking” pieces of a lineup against certain pitchers. Here are the stacks that could work well on DraftKings today, based on past statistics.

Yes, I am promoting a Nationals stack against Tom Koehler. Most would. Ben Revere ($3,800) may be able to get going here. He is 10-22(.455) with two RBI off Koehler. Jayson Werth ($3,800) is only 5-21(.238), but he has six walks, two homers, and five RBI. Ryan Zimmerman ($3,700) is only 6-20(.250), but he has two homers and three RBI. Bryce Harper ($5,100) is expensive, but is almost a must-play. Harper is 9-28(.321) with three walks, a double, six home runs, and 11 RBI off Koehler.

Surprise, surprise, the Indians have hit Ricky Nolasco hard. Jason Kipnis ($4,500) is 4-12 with a walk, two doubles, a homer, and five RBI off of him. Yan Gomes ($3,400) is 2-7 and both hits are home runs. Jose Ramirez, Carlos Santana, and Juan Uribe have also taken him long, though don’t boast great averages. I wouldn’t blame you for a Cleveland stack tonight.

It’s a brief history, but in two starts against the Angels, Johnny Giavotella, Mike Trout, and Albert Pujols have all taken Nathan Karns deep. You could consider an Angels stack here.

The Rangers haven’t hit R.A. Dickey particularly hard, but Brett Nicholas ($3,900) is perfect against him with two walks and a solo home run. Prince Fielder, Adrian Beltre, and Mitch Moreland have all taken him out of the park, but none have a good average against him.

Chase Headley ($2,500) is 4-9 with a walk, a double, and  solo home run off of Chris Sale. Carlos Beltran ($2,900) is 2-5 with a walk, a homer, and three RBI off of Sale. If you want to take a detour from the beaten path, this could be it.

Adam Jones ($4,000) is only 8-35(.229) against Justin Verlander, but he does have two homers and six RBI if you are looking to chase some power against what has become an inconsistent pitcher.

It’s a small sample, but Yoenis Cespedes ($5,600) is 2-5 with a double, a homer, and four RBI off of Jon Gray.

Speaking of small samples, Byung Ho Park ($4,000) has only faced Josh Tomlin twice, but he did hit a two run home run off of him. Not a bad start for Park.

Miguel Cabrera ($4,200) is 5-13(.385) with two walks, a double, a homer, and four RBI against Chris Tillman. Ian KInsler ($4,700) is 5-19(.263) with a walk, a double, a homer, and two driven in against Tillman. They are exceptions to Tillman’s good track record against the Tigers.

Josh Donaldson ($5,400) is 6-15(.400) with four walks, three doubles, a homer, and two RBI off of young lefty Martin Perez.

Maikel Franco ($3,900) took Brandon Finnegan deep in Finnegan’s start against the Phillies earlier this year.
