The Tampa Bay Lightning and the Pittsburgh Penguins will meet again on Monday for Game 2.

Though the Lightning lost their starting goaltender Ben Bishop in the first period, they managed to best the Penguins 3-1 in Game 1. Backup Andrei Vasilevskiy (21) made 24 saves, allowing only a second-period power-play goal to Patrik Hornqvist.

Alex Killorn scored late in the first period, and Ondrej Palat and Jonathan Drouin had second-period goals for the Lightning.

Game 1 was anything but calm. Less than three minutes into regulation, Ryan Callahan ran Kris Letang from behind into the boards, earning a major penalty for boarding but no game misconduct. Letang went to the Penguins dressing room, but did eventually return after about ten minutes.

The drama escalated when goalie Ben Bishop for Tampa Bay was taken off the ice on a stretcher after suffering an apparent left-knee injury. Backup Vasilevskiy reported for duty like a true professional, performing extremely well at last minute.

Then, if the Bolts hadn’t lost enough, forward Tyler Johnson being hurt on a knee-on-knee hit with Chris Kunitz late in the first period. Johnson eventually returned, to the Lightning’s relief.

Meanwhile, the Penguins were able to beat Vasilevskiy only once, when Hornqvist put the puck in the net after a slick pass from Sidney Crosby.

The Penguins once again host the Lightning at the CONSOL Energy Center for Game 2 of the Eastern Conference finals on Monday, May 16 at 8:00 PM ET. The game will be aired on NBC Sports Network.
