DraftKings Late MLB Picks For May 14

There are ten games in the late tournament today, so that means a lot of stats to go through, and a lot of tough decisions to make. Who should you spend on? Let’s hit the stats!

More from DraftKings

NOTE: these picks are based solely on statistics. Some players have never faced their opponents, or have very little experience against them. I am not saying that none of those are good picks. The highest scorer of the day could be someone with no experience against his opponent. This is based on statistical analysis only. If you have a gut feeling, then by all means, follow that. This is not an exact science. The best lineups usually have a mix of proven stats and hot players.

Rookie Tim Adelman has never faced the Phillies, so you wont see any of them on this list. Same goes for the Royals against Mike Foltynewicz. The Tigers only have three at bats against Mike Wright, so that wont help us here either. Kendry Flores has also never faced the Washington Nationals.

Best Bets:

Carlos Martinez ($9,700): Martinez has done well against the Dodgers so far in his career. The Boys in Blue are only hitting .222 in 63 at bats with one homer and seven RBI to 18 strikeouts. The strikeout total is not great, but there aren’t a lot of elite options going tonight. Martinez still tops the list.

Aaron Nola ($9,500): Nola dominated the Reds back on April 6th, allowing just a solo home run to Eugenio Suarez in seven innings while striking out eight. I wouldn’t bet against him doing it again. He may be the  best option of the night.

Honorable Mention:

Marco Estrada ($8,100): Estrada has dominated the Rangers so far in his career. They are hitting just .158 against him in 76 at bats with two homers and four RBI against an ugly 26 strikeouts. If you argued for Estrada as your top pitcher, I would have a hard time disagreeing, but the Rangers still have a fairly potent lineup.

Dark Horse:

Hisashi Iwakuma ($7,700): Iwakuma gets to take on the AL’s newest player in Jhoulys Chacin, and he has a pretty good track record against the Angels as well. The Angels are only hitting .221 against him in 190 at bats with five homers and 11 RBI to 35 strikeouts. Again, the strikeout total is low, but the win potential is very high.

You have heard our FanDuel experts Matt Rogers and Brian Tulloch talk about “stacking” pieces of a lineup against certain pitchers. Here are the stacks that could work well on DraftKings today, based on past statistics.

Yes, I am advocating a stack against Stephen Strasburg. Hear me out: The Marlins are hitting .268 off of him, with a key core doing most of the damage. Keep an eye on whether Strasburg starts the early or late game of the Nats-Marlins doubleheader, and adjust accordingly. Giancarlo Stanton ($4,700) is worth using in both tournaments. He is 14-35(.400) with five walks, seven doubles, three homers, and 10 RBI against Strasburg. Marcell Ozuna ($3,800) is 9-25(.360) with two walks, a double, a triple, two homers, and six driven in. Justin Bour ($3,600) is 5-16(.313) with two walks, a homer, and five driven in off Strasburg.

The Orioles have hit Anibal Sanchez hard, particularly these guys. Matt Wieters ($3,200) is 4-9 with a homer and four RBI. Manny Machado ($5,300) is 3-6 with a walk and a solo homer. Caleb Joseph ($2,800) is 2-3 with a homer and three driven in, so no matter who catches, you’re covered. Pedro Alvarez ($3,400) is 5-15 with two walks, two homers, and six RBI off of Sanchez.

Starting Colby Lewis against Toronto is likely a bad idea. Starting these hitters against Lewis is not. Kevin Pillar ($3,900) is 3-6 with a solo homer off Lewis. Michael Saunders ($3,700) is 6-23(.261) with three walks, two doubles, a triple, a homer, and three RBI against Lewis. Jose Bautista ($4,500) is 5-14(.357) with a staggering ten walks, two homers, and three RBI. Don’t forget about Justin Smoak ($3,400). Smoak is 8-19(.421) with two walks, two doubles, two homers, and four RBI off Lewis.

Freddie Freeman ($4,800) will be happy to see Dillon Gee again. Freeman is 9-37(.243) with two walks, two doubles, two homers, and six RBI off of him. Jace Peterson ($3,300) could be worth using too. He is 3-8 with a walk, a double, a homer, and three RBI against Gee.

Jhoulys Chacin has only faced two Mariners in his career, and one of them has pulverized him. Nori Aoki ($3,500) is 4-11(.364) with two walks and three solo homers off of Chacin.

A.J. Ellis ($2,300) could get a spot start in this one. He is 2-6 with two walks, a homer, and three RBI against Carlos Martinez.

Kole Calhoun ($3,600) is only 6-24(.250) off of Hisashi Iwakuma, but he has hit two solo home runs against him.

Hunter Pence ($4,300) loves to face Patrick Corbin. Pence is 10-21(.476) with two walks, three doubles, a triple, three homers, and seven RBI off of him. That is an awful lot of points!

Matt Holliday ($3,700) has been hot lately, and now he gets to face Scott Kazmir. He is 4-9 lifetime off of Kazmir with two walks and two solo home runs. I wouldn’t rule out the possibility of another.

Mitch Moreland ($3,600) is 3-6  with a walk, a homer, and two RBI against Marco Estrada. Rougned Odor ($4,500) has a solo homer in three at bats. These two may be worth using.
