DFS MLB Weather Updates:

One of the most underrated bits of information for Daily Fantasy Sports Baseball is weather.  For example, if you pick a player who’s game was postponed, you’re getting a 0 point result for that player’s lineup pick.  Also, weather tends to impact results.  Here are some weather-related impacts to a baseball game:

  • Air Temperature/Hitting – It’s common to hear baseball announcers mention how an April pop-fly in the outfield could likely be a home run in July or August in the same stadium.  When the air temperature is warm, a baseball’s trajectory is great than when the air temperature is cold. So if you notice the game temperature is low, expect less than normal home runs.  When really warm, expect a few pop-fly’s to make it over the wall.
  • Air Temperature/Pitching – During very hot games, pitchers often complain about gripping the baseball due to sweat.  After you get over the ‘ew gross’ response, consider holding a wet baseball firmly with a sweaty palm and good luck hitting your target.
  • Air Density– It’s no secret in MLB the thin air in Coors Field appears to result in more home runs for the Rockies and opposing team hitters.  If you’d like to see a great example of this outcome, take a look at Tyler Chatwood’s ERA in Coors Field versus every away game he’s pitched this year; Home – 7.88 ERA / Away – 0.33 ERA.
  • Wind – Wind Speed and direction within a stadium certainly has an impact on the outcome of a fly ball.  When the wind is blowing toward the outfield, you’ll see some pop-fly outfield hits barely slip over the wall for a home run.  However, when the wind is blowing strong from the outfield toward home plate, you’ll see a ball crushed off of the meat of the bat ‘die’ mid-air into an outfielders glow.

Now, let’s take a look at today’s DFS MLB Weather forecasts across the league:
