A former NFL All-Pro once acknowledged to us that players who were either half-good on the field or have-coherent off of it have about a three-year window post-career to try their hand in the broadcast booth. They can cash it in right away or sit on it. Many want to go that broadcasting route, seeing it as a next logical step for a 30-something retiree with who’s done nothing but eat, breath and bleed the game for the last 20-some. The NFL and the NFLPA are happy to lead them down that route.
