Newly created USL side FC Cincinnati are enjoying a great run of support from their fans.

FC Cincinnati was created nine months ago and have only played four home matches so far, but the new USL side have already broken two league attendance records. The club first broke the record on April 16, when 20,497 fans came to see their club’s home match against Louisville City FC.

Before the club broke the record against Louisville, MLS club Orlando City SC welcomed 20,386 to their 2013 USL Championship match. It didn’t take Cincinnati long to break their own record. On Saturday May 14, 23,375 fans came to see the first encounter between Cincinnati and the Pittsburgh Riverhounds.

Owner Carl Lindner III told uslsoccer.com that, “As a new professional team, we have been overwhelmed with [fans] support which has only confirmed what we long believed, that Cincinnati is one of the top soccer cities in the nation, where civic pride as a major-league community has brought people together in support of our team.”

The support Cincinnati has received so far should also be attributed to their stadium, which is the home of the University of Cincinnati and the fourth largest stadium in the USL.

Still, the players are feeling a lot of love and support from the fans, and that is what’s important for a professional soccer club trying to convince MLS to give them a spot in the league.

“When you walk down Cincinnati and people are wearing our hats and clothing and people are talking about it, it’s exciting. We’ll keep getting better every game and fans will be excited about it,” said goalie Mitch Hildebrandt to the league website.

The club currently sits second in the East with a 5-2-2 record.
