1. Obvious National Championship Contender

If it were not for the buzz saw that is Nick Saban and Alabama football, Watson would have led the Clemson Tigers to a National Championship last season. They were loaded with talent on both sides of the ball, and were able to make a run all the way to the National Championship game, where Watson’s incredible performance in the bright lights was almost enough to top the powerful Crimson Tide.

An Alabama team filled with NFL talent proved to be too much to overcome, but the Tigers were right there.

Clemson did lose some important players to the NFL — defensive ends Shaq Lawson and Kevin Dodd will be the most difficult losses to cope with — but a majority of their impact players are back for another run. Also, having a returning starting quarterback is a huge advantage in college football.

With Alabama losing a ton of talent to the NFL, Clemson enters this season as the clear number one team in the nation. Behind the strength of Watson, they are going to pile up a ton of wins and are an obvious National Championship contender. In order to win a Heisman, your team has to be great, and Watson’s undoubtedly is.
