5. San Antonio Spurs (No. 29)

Yes, you’re reading this correctly. The San Antonio Spurs need to trade their selection in the NBA draft. The question is, up or down?

The answer: up.

The Spurs might be losing Tim Duncan who saw his production dip big-time in 2015-16 and that means even if he does return, the Spurs will need to find his replacement. LaMarcus Aldridge is a nice piece to have in the post already, but building around him helps.

At No. 29 overall, the Spurs hold just that lone pick in this year’s draft and will need to trade up to add a piece who is worthy of really developing into a future beast in the post.

There is talk of free agency helping out San Antonio with guys like Kevin Durant drawing interest, but even so, getting a franchise power forward/center to play alongside Aldridge and Kawhi Leonard will be imperative.

Who knows what they’d truly have to give up to jump into the top 20, but it won’t be cheap. However, if they’re going to be a contender next season and beyond, trading up must happen.

Not only do the Spurs need a big man, but a point guard or shooting guard would also be serviceable.
