NBA Draft Lottery 2016: Why 76ers don’t deserve to win No. 1 pick
By John Buhler
4. A burdensome culture of losing in Philadelphia.
This idea ties into the previous slide, but man it is difficult to turn around a culture of losing. This doesn’t necessarily mean that either Simmons or Ingram have to become an perennial All-NBA caliber player for the 76ers, but just help them get back to respectability as a solid role player.
Even with the Big East’s Villanova Wildcats winning the 2016 NCAA Tournament, Philadelphia is struggling mightily at the professional level with their sports teams. The Phillies were the worst team in baseball the last three years. The Eagles will probably finish in the bottom quarter of the NFC in 2016. The Flyers are okay. Then there is the chemistry experiment gone awry with the 76ers…
It’s hard to imagine the 76ers being able to even win 20 games in 2016-17 with their current group in place. Do the players play hard for head coach Brett Brown? Yes, but there is a price to be paid for all this perpetual losing. Bad habits and the lack of understanding what it takes to win will take its toll on the 76ers for years to come.
Players on these atrocious 76ers teams of late will look at a No. 1 overall pick like Simmons or Ingram as the supposed savior to help them right their sinking ship. Even if Simmons or Ingram play well on the court, does that necessarily translate to winning games for the hapless 76ers? No, it doesn’t and the burdensome culture of losing will claim another lost season for the 76ers.
