After the Philadelphia 76ers received the first pick in the NBA draft, the team’s fans went crazy.

The Philadelphia 76ers have one of the more historic NBA franchises in the league. However, the past few seasons have not been nice to them. But, the future is starting to shine brightly.

On Tuesday night, the NBA announced the lottery draft selections. Going into the draft, the 76ers had the greatest opportunity at drafting number one overall, with a 26.9 percent chance.

The last time Philadelphia had the number one pick was back in 1996. That year, the 76ers selected the point guard Allen Iverson. If the 76ers can come close to drafting a player with Iverson’s talent level, then they will have made an excellent pick this year.

To get to this point, the 76ers have taken an interesting road. The past three seasons have been filled with disappointing play due to the alleged “tanking,” or purposely losing in order to gain a sweeter draft choice. Now, it appears that the process is nearly complete.

In Philadelphia, the city has a basketball team loaded with plenty of potential. Whomever the team drafts first overall will be paired up with rising star Jahlil Okafor.

In the video captured by Barstool Sports, 76ers fans are seen jumping, screaming, and simply not believing the good fortune of the team.

After making its horde of fans happy tonight, the 76ers now have an even bigger task — correctly drafting the right player with the first overall pick. If the 76ers can select the proper player, then the franchise should be in good hands for the next decade. But if the team bombs the pick, then Philadelphia will have several more rough seasons.

No pressure, 76ers.
