Barry Allen escaped his own close brush with death on Season 2 of The Flash, but not everyone made it out of episode 22 alive.

With one episode of The Flash still to come in Season 2, fans could be pretty sure that the final showdown with Zoom wasn’t going to happen until the finale. That doesn’t mean that “Invincible” was going to be free of drama, and indeed, the ads leading up to this episode (especially radio ads) made it seem like someone was going to die.
Unfortunately, that turned out to be the case. And in heartbreaking fashion, considering the episode had built up to an otherwise happy ending.
With all of Barry Allen’s friends and family gathered for a dinner to celebrate their victory over the army of metahumans from Earth-2, things came to a grinding halt when Cisco Ramon had his most disturbing vibe yet. As he came out of it, Zoom arrived, taking Henry Allen, Barry’s dad, with him.
Barry pursued the villain to his childhood home, where Hunter Zolomon had his dad captive. Claiming he would prove that they were essentially the same person, Zoom vibrated his hand through Henry’s chest.
Since the preview clips for the next episode showed Barry at his dad’s grave, we can safely assume that Henry is really dead. That means that Barry has lost both parents, and his father’s death is especially tragic considering that Henry had been locked up for most of his life and had only been a free man since the end of Season 1.
The lesson from the previous episode — namely, that bad things would continue to happen to Barry despite his powers — was driven home in the most direct way possible. Fans will miss John Wesley Shipp, the original TV Flash, but this should give The Flash‘s Season 2 finale an extra emotional beat.
