New Virginia Cavaliers head football coach Bronco Mendenhall has he and his family living in an RV and loving it, while their house is being renovated.
Last college coaching carousel, many wondered why successful BYU Cougars head coach Bronco Mendenhall would leave his top 25 program in Utah for arguably the worst program in the ACC Coastal Division in the Virginia Cavaliers.
Yet, Mendenhall and his entire family have relocated to gorgeous Charlottesville. The only problem for the new Virginia coach is that his family has to live in an RV while their new home is being renovated. However the new coach of the Hoos seems to be enjoying the whole RV experience.
Former Cavaliers quarterback and current assistant coach on Mendenhall’s staff Marques Hagans told ESPN the following about his head coach’s current living situation, “You’d never think a head coach of a Division I program would be living in an RV and truly enjoying it. But that’s what separates him.”
Virginia struggled mightily on the gridiron during the Mike London era in Charlottesville. It’s been nearly a decade since Virginia beat in-state rival Virginia Tech in the Commonwealth Cup and haven’t done much to hold their own in the ACC Coastal.
Getting a great mid-major head coach in Mendenhall was an absolute steal for the Cavaliers. Given that he, his wife, and three teenage children are totally cool with living in an RV while their Virginia house is being renovated might further signal that he was the right man to rebuild this football program.
Leaving a school with tremendous job security in independent BYU for one of the weakest teams in the ACC the last half decade is a huge gamble for Mendenhall to make. However with Frank Beamer no longer coaching at Virginia Tech and former Memphis Tigers head coach Justin Fuente at the helm in Blacksburg, will it be time for Virginia to take back control in the Commonwealth State and ultimately the ACC Coastal?
