Mike Milbury supports players getting concussions (Video)

During an intermission of Game 2 of the Western Conference Finals Mike Milbury advocated players giving out concussions if they’re going to get a penalty.

Mike Milbury is one of the most hated people among hockey fans. His opinions are outdated, asinine, and awful.

Milbury took his usual inappropriate comments to a new level during an intermission during Game 2 of the Western Conference Finals.

The Blues committed several penalties in the second period. Milbury was infuriated by them, but not for the reason that one would think.

Usually, Milbury’s comments are so dumb that they are hilarious. Those comments are far past stupid. Instead of focusing on “don’t take penalties against teams that have deadly power plays”, Milbury chose to focus on players needing to do damage with their penalties. This is especially uncalled for because he makes light of concussions.

Concussions are a very serious issue in professional sports right now and the NHL is currently facing a lawsuit for not doing enough to prevent or diagnose them. Making light of them is tasteless. Suggesting players should try to break or crack someone’s bone when they slash them is asinine as well.

The worst thing about Milbury’s comments is that it makes him a hypocrite. Milbury was extremely critical (and rightfully so) of Capitals defenseman Brooks Orpik’s hit on Penguins defenseman Olli Maatta. He went as far as to call the hit “predatory”.

Now he’s saying that he wants his players to give out concussions and broken bones? That’s unacceptable. Sadly, NBC Sports Network probably won’t discipline him at all because his comments get ratings.
