Here are the overtime rules for the NASCAR Sprint All-Star Race, being held this Saturday night at Charlotte Motor Speedway.
Saturday night, dozens of the top drivers in NASCAR will be under the lights of Charlotte Motor Speedway for the annual Sprint All-Star Race. The 32nd edition of the sport’s big event will feature three segments of laps (the first two being 50 laps each while the last will be 13), but like any other NASCAR race there may be some extra racing.
In the event that there is the need for overtime racing, the NASCAR Sprint All-Star Race will feature the same overtime rules as is held during the rest of the season, according to NASCAR.com:
"After taking the green flag on an overtime restart, the leader must pass the overtime line before a potential caution flag were to come out for the attempt to be considered a clean restart. If there is a clean restart, it will be a valid green-white-checkered attempt. If the caution flag comes before the leader passes the overtime line on the first lap under green, it is not considered a valid attempt. A subsequent attempt at a green-white-checkered restart would then occur; if necessary, multiple attempts will be made until there is a clean restart.Once a valid attempt (clean restart) happens, it is the only attempt at a green-white-checkered finish. If a caution flag occurs during a valid green-white-checkered attempt, that marks the end of the race. Vehicles would be scored as they cross the start/finish line under caution."
Each speedway decides where the overtime line is on their specific track. The 32nd NASCAR Spring All-Star Race will take place Saturday, May 21st at 7pm and will be televised live on FOX Sports 1.
