Re-draft 2003 NBA Draft
The mid-2000’s New York Knicks were truly a sight to behold. With a bevy of mismanagement and struggles following trying to rebuild after the Patrick Ewing-era, the Knicks just couldn’t get out of their own way and made some truly awful draft picks.
That isn’t to say that there wasn’t talent on the Knicks’ roster. They had enough to scrounge together 39 wins on the year and get the right to be swept by the New Jersey Nets in the first round of the NBA Playoffs.
It also didn’t help that they made one of their worst draft picks ever, when they selected Georgetown power forward Michael Sweetney. He wouldn’t last long in a Knicks uniform or in the league for that matter.
It was yet another blown draft pick for a team that was also sinking money into crippling contracts. In a re-draft, the right pick here for the Knicks would have been Boris Diaw. As an international prospect, Diaw was an extremely versatile forward who could also play all positions on the court.
He had the ability to run point, but also go be a big man if needed. That versatility could have been huge for the Knicks and their roster.
