Re-draft 2003 NBA Draft
The Memphis Grizzlies originally used their 2003 draft pick on point guard Marcus Banks and proceeded to trade him to the Boston Celtics, who drafted point guard Troy Bell a few picks later and traded him to the Grizzlies.
Neither of those point guards worked out in the NBA for either team and the Grizzlies were already a team that had some solid point guards. With Pau Gasol and plenty of other solid rotational players on the roster, the Grizzlies were a playoff team that maybe could have been more.
In this re-draft, the Grizzlies should have taken T.J. Ford out of Texas if they were going to draft a point guard to the roster. For those that remember Ford, he was a point guard that could be dynamic, but injuries did his career in and he just couldn’t physically play anymore.
Perhaps if he ended up in Memphis, his career would have been different and he would have played a lot longer in this league. Add him to that Memphis team that was fighting for a playoff spot and maybe they don’t get swept in the first round two years in a row. Perhaps they end up maybe winning one game in their prospective series against the San Antonio Spurs and Phoenix Suns.
