In the 2003 NBA Draft, the San Antonio Spurs selected Brazilian guard Leandro Barbosa and traded him to the Phoenix Suns on draft night. In a re-draft, Barbosa would have been long gone by the time the Spurs picked, but there would have likely been another intriguing option with a bit of international flavor available to the team with the No. 28 pick in the draft.

Carlos Delfino was originally selected by the Pistons with the No. 25 pick in the draft and there’s a good chance that he would have been available in the re-draft. The Argentinian shooting guard took a while to get going in the league, but when he finally developed, he became a nice shooter for teams.

With Gregg Popovich as his head coach, Delfino might have flourished even more in the league and probably would have ended up as one of those classic gems that the Spurs have had luck with drafting internationally.

They already had a guard from Argentina in Manu Ginobili, but having another shooter would have been a great addition to their roster in the long run. Still, can’t argue with their drafting at all in that position, considering how many titles they would go on to win.
