Re-draft 2003 NBA Draft
The Chicago Bulls badly needed a point guard when they drafted Kirk Hinrich in 2003. It was a total draft for need over best player available, but it was a reach that ended up paying off for the Bulls.
During his time at Kansas, Hinrich was one of the tougher point guards in the country and gave his heart in everything he played. Although he missed the start of his rookie season, he would be the only rookie out of one of the most talented classes to record a triple-double during his rookie season.
He would make the All-Rookie team and he would be the steady hand at point guard that the Bulls could depend upon. He wasn’t a superstar or even an All-Star, but he was a player that would set an example with the way that he played.
His time in Chicago lasted until 2010, then he played for them again from 2012 to 2016. With the amount of minutes that he has spent as a Bull in his career and the amount of hustle that he played with on the court, there’s no doubt the Bulls made the right pick in the draft.
Derrick Rose would eventually come along and Hinrich’s role would change, but like the true professional that he was, he was able to adapt and find a new role.
