Re-draft 2003 NBA Draft
Ironically enough, Mo Williams would land with the Milwaukee Bucks a year after he was selected in the 2003 NBA Draft. In the first round of the draft that year, the Bucks needed a point guard and ended up taking T.J. Ford out of Texas.
Ford offered exciting potential, but he was never really able to maintain the consistency and stay healthy to develop into a tenured point guard in the NBA. Williams meanwhile was a second-round pick that ended up becoming an All-Star in the league.
The Bucks made the right move signing Williams after he was released by the Utah Jazz and coincidentally, he would end up filling in for an injured Ford. He made enough of an impression, that he ended up spending a good chunk of time with the Bucks and being acquired by the Cavaliers.
Although he would eventually enter the territory of becoming a journeyman in the NBA, that and an All-Star appearance is fantastic value considering the fact that he was drafted in the second round and released after his first year in the league.
Had the Bucks known that Ford wouldn’t be able to stay healthy and Williams would have the potential to play over a decade in the league, he would have been the pick right away. Still, they can’t be blamed either for not taking him at the time.
