DraftKings Early MLB Picks For May 19

There are only two afternoon games today, which means most players are going to be widely owned. Who can set your lineup apart? Let’s hit the stats!

More from DraftKings

NOTE: these picks are based solely on statistics. Some players have never faced their opponents, or have very little experience against them. I am not saying that none of those are good picks. The highest scorer of the day could be someone with no experience against his opponent. This is based on statistical analysis only. If you have a gut feeling, then by all means, follow that. This is not an exact science. The best lineups usually have a mix of proven stats and hot players.

Best Bet:

Jason Hammel ($9,400): Being its such a light slate and his nemesis (more on that later) may not play, Hammel may be 100% owned. The Brewers are only hitting .232 off of him in 95 at bats with two homers and six RBI while striking out 21 times. The numbers heavily favor Hammel this afternoon.

Honorable Mention:

Nathan Karns ($8,400): This isn’t just small tournament pity. Karns has held the Orioles to a .211 average in 38 at bats, but has allowed two homers. He has struck out seven though. Still, the Orioles are dangerous, but on a day like today, you have to accept small sample sizes like Karns, or take a complete stab in the dark with Tyler Wilson and Junior Guerra, who have never faced today’s opponent. Which do you choose?

Next: Who Are The Best Stacks?

You have heard our FanDuel experts Matt Rogers and Brian Tulloch talk about “stacking” pieces of a lineup against certain pitchers. Here are the stacks that could work well on DraftKings today, based on past statistics.

This is a small tournament, but the Orioles that have hit Nathan Karns have hit him well. Chris Davis ($4,900) is 2-6 with two walks and a solo homer. Adam Jones ($4,300) is 3-9 with a pair of RBI. Matt Wieters ($3,100) is 1-2 with a RBI double. If you want a stat-based stack for the afternoon, this is your only choice.

Ryan Braun ($4,700) is worth playing if he is able to play. Braun is 8-23(.348) with three walks, a double, two homers, and three RBI off of Jason Hammel.
