The struggles of Mets pitcher Matt Harvey has fans up in arms.
The New York Mets are coming off a successful 2015 season, as they won the National League pennant and entered the World Series. They would lose to the Kansas City Royals in 5 games.
To start the 2016 campaign, the Mets have been up and down. They stand a few games over .500, but the hitting has struggled here and there. Plus, fans seem to be freaking out over stud pitcher Matt Harvey.
The former UNC Tar Heel hasn’t fared well this year, coming into Thursday’s game with a 4.93 ERA. Allowing 9 runs vs the Washington Nationals won’t help that either. So, given the strong nature of the New York fans, they are panicking over Harvey’s struggles and took to Twitter to express this.
Matt Harvey makes me want to drink (not coffee)

Seeing Matt Harvey get shelled on a nightly basis is very saddening. He was the reason I started to believe in the future in 2013.

Matt Harvey all of a sudden really sucks at pitching.

His K% has dropped every year he's been in the league. 5.77 ERA this year.
If you were concerned about the #Mets and #MattHarvey coming into this game...it's going to be a sleepless night now.

I do not think (or I do not want) Matt Harvey is a bad pitcher. I think he's a pitcher that has a tired arm and is trying to do too much

To all the people who think Tommy John is the answer and will make you throw even harder and better then before.... look at Matt Harvey now

Fans aren’t reacting too well to the struggles with some thinking it’s time to ship out Harvey.
While this may be concerning, fans aren’t factoring in that this is only his 9th start of the 2016 season. It’s normal for pitchers go through struggles like this. He could be dealing with a mechanical issue that the coaching staff is probably working on fixing.
Matt Harvey is also just six months removed from pitching into the 9th inning of a World Series game. So let’s not get too high strung about this. He may just need time and for fans to be patient, which New York fans have never been known for.
