Frank Vogel is reportedly one step closer to being named the next coach of the Orlando Magic, according to one of the team’s beat writers.

In the last few weeks, NBA teams across the country have filled their head coaching vacancies. While some have gone with assistant coaches from their current staff, others are giving recently fired coaches a second chance.

In the case of the Orlando Magic, it’s looking as if they will be going with door number two. One writer for the Orlando Sentinel sent out a series of tweets that indicate Frank Vogel, who was not brought back by the Indiana Pacers after last season, appears to be in the drivers seat for that job:

Vogel spent five full seasons as the Pacers head coach after taking over as the interim coach halfway through the 2010-11 season. He led the Pacers to the playoffs five times, including two trips to the Eastern Conference Finals in consecutive seasons.

Vogel did not have his contract renewed by the team following Indiana’s first round loss this year in seven games to the Toronto Raptors. His name has been mentioned for several different coaching openings, including with the Houston Rockets.

The Magic have been looking for a new coach since Scott Skiles suddenly resigned after one season with the team. Orlando saw a 10-win improvement during the 2015-16 season from the year before, finishing with a 35-47 record for their fifth straight losing season.
