2. Health Concerns and Age

For the first time in his career, Lincecum will be dealing with his body finally starting to show the wear and tear that his career has caused. While it isn’t as bad as, say, a Tommy John Surgery or a shoulder surgery, a hip surgery is serious business for pitchers. Especially those who use their whole body in their windup like Lincecum.

Making that adjustment while changing leagues should prove to be very difficult for Lincecum. Changing leagues has claimed far superior pitchers than him. He could be the next victim of the dreaded switch from the National League to the American League.

Another thing that Lincecum will have to deal with is that he is getting old. In San Francisco, that was minimized due to the brilliant efforts of Posey and Bochy. He was also helped by a medical staff that knew his body better than he did. Lincecum will not have that luxury in Anaheim. Could this finally be the year that Lincecum’s thin body breaks down?

Complicating his health and age issues will be that he is not used to pitching more than six innings a start. He hasn’t pitched over 157 innings in a season since 2013.
