DraftKings MLB Picks For May 20

There are 14 games tonight, so that means a lot of stats to go through, and a lot of tough decisions to make. Who should you spend on? Let’s hit the stats!

More from DraftKings

NOTE: these picks are based solely on statistics. Some players have never faced their opponents, or have very little experience against them. I am not saying that none of those are good picks. The highest scorer of the day could be someone with no experience against his opponent. This is based on statistical analysis only. If you have a gut feeling, then by all means, follow that. This is not an exact science. The best lineups usually have a mix of proven stats and hot players.

Steven Matz has never faced the Brewers, and while this looks like a good matchup, there are no stats to back it up. Add to the fact that Terry Collins hinted that Matz might be on a limited pitch count, and your dollars could likely go to better use tonight.

Hisashi Iwakuma has never faced the Reds. Matt Andriese has never faced the Tigers, but he has only given up one run over 16 innings in two starts this year. Eddie Butler has never faced the Cardinals, but can you trust him after what they did to Jon Gray?

Best Bets:

Gerrit Cole ($8,700): The Rockies are only 11-55(.200) against Cole with two homers, five RBI, and 11 strikeouts. The game is in Pittsburgh and the high number of strikeouts point to Cole being a top option tonight.

Carlos Martinez ($8,300): Martinez has dominated Arizona so far in his career. The Diamondbacks are hitting a pathetic .169 with two RBI in 77 at bats and have struck out 19 times. Don’t be surprised if Martinez outscores the higher priced pitchers tonight.

Honorable Mention:

Jake Arrieta ($12,800): You would have to be a fool not to at least mention Arrieta on here somewhere. The Giants have only struck out against Arrieta 14 times in 74 at bats, but they have only scored four runs, haven’t hit  a home run, and own a pedestrian .243 batting average. The numbers aren’t elite, but the pitcher is. How much do you trust him?

Aaron Sanchez ($8,000): Sanchez has only faced the Twins once, but he was very good against them. He gave up just one run on three hits and a walk in six innings with six strikeouts. That’s good enough for me!

Dark Horses:

Sonny Gray ($6,800): Gray’s ERA is near six, and he is facing the Yankees. That said, the Yankees aren’t who they once were, and Gray is too good to be this bad, right? The stats say he could get back on track tonight. The Yankees are only hitting .188 off of him in 69 at bats with two homers and eight RBI. They have only struck out 15 times, but at this price, Gray’s potential reward far outweighs the risk.

Patrick Corbin ($6,700): Yes, he is opposing Carlos Martinez, one of the best bets, but the stats say that he should fare well against the Cardinals. They are hitting only .217 off of Corbin in 46 at bats with two homers, four RBI, and 12 strikeouts. Even if he takes the loss, he should still outperform his price.

You have heard our FanDuel experts Matt Rogers and Brian Tulloch talk about “stacking” pieces of a lineup against certain pitchers. Here are the stacks that could work well on DraftKings today, based on past statistics.

Jose Quintana is off to a great start, but the Royals have hit him hard in his career. Salvador Perez ($2,600) is 17-45(.378) with two walks, four doubles, a triple, two homers, and eight driven in against Quintana. Paulo Orlando ($2,400) is 5-11(.455) with two doubles and two RBI. Kendrys Morales ($2,600) is 8-26(.308) with a walk, two doubles, a homer and five RBI. Eric Hosmer ($3,400) is only 10-50(.200), but he has two homers and ten RBI. Lorenzo Cain ($4,000) is 15-47(.319) with six doubles and three RBI. Alcides Escobar ($3,200) is 13-49(.265) with four walks, three doubles and five RBI off Quintana. There are plenty of Royals worth playing tonight.

Travis Shaw ($3,800) is already 4-8 off of Corey Kluber with a walk and a solo homer. Mookie Betts ($4,600) is 2-6 with a walk, a homer, and two driven in. David Ortiz ($4,600) is 4-14(.286) with a walk, a double, two homers, and four RBI against Kluber.

Tanner Roark faced the Marlins on Saturday, and they lit him up. You may want to stack in case they do it again. Derek Dietrich ($3,300) is 3-9, with a double, a homer and four RBI. Martin Prado ($3,400) is 9-18 with a walk, a homer, and five RBI. Giancarlo Stanton ($4,200) is only 5-20, but he has three walks, a double, two home runs, and three RBI off Roark. J.T. Realmuto ($3,100) is worth playing if he plays. He is 6-13(.462) with a double and four RBI against Roark. Marcell Ozuna ($3,900) is 7-23(.304) with a double, a triple, and four RBI off Roark.

Adam Jones ($3,800) is 4-10 with a walk, a homer, and two RBI against Hector Santiago. Chris Davis ($3,700) is 2-8 with a two run homer. Nolan Reimold ($2,700) is 2-4 with a solo homer off of Santiago as well.

The Phillies like Matt Wisler so far. Maikel Franco ($3,500) is 4-6 with a double, a homer, and two RBI. Odubel Herrera ($4,000) is 2-7 with a solo homer. Cameron Rupp ($2,500) is 1-2 with a three run homer off of Wisler so far. Will it keep up tonight?

The Mariners remember Dan Straily well from his days in Oakland. Nelson Cruz, Franklin Gutierrez, Chris Iannetta, and Kyle Seager have all taken him out of the park. Robinson Cano ($5,400) is 4-11 with a walk and a RBI against him as well.

CC Sabathia has struggled this year, and the A’s have hit him pretty well in his career. Billy Butler ($3,100) is 11-41(.268) with four walks, three doubles, a homer, and three RBI off Sabathia. Coco Crisp ($2,800) is only 6-24, but two of those hits are home runs. Danny Valencia ($3,600) is is 7-25(.280) with a double, a homer, and two RBI.

Neil Walker ($3,700) is 4-14(.286) with a walk, a double, a homer, and four RBI against Wily Peralta. Lucas Duda ($4,100) is 3-9 with a walk, two doubles, and three RBI. The struggling Curtis Granderson ($4,200) is 5-8 with a walk, two doubles, and two solo homers off of Peralta.

Nolan Arenado ($3,800) is 2-5 with a two run homer off of Gerrit Cole. He could produce nicely for the reduced price.

Brian McCann ($3,500) is 2-8 off of Sonny Gray with a walk, a homer, and two RBI. Brett Gardner ($4,000) is 4-10 with a walk and two RBI.

Carlos Correa ($4,300) is 4-9 with a double, two homers, and three RBI off of Colby Lewis so far in his career. Jason Castro, Jake Marisnick, Colby Rasmus, and Luis Valbuena have all homered off of Lewis, but they don’t carry a good average against him.

These are not your usual suspects, but Alexei Ramirez ($2,700) and Adam Rosales ($2,000) have both hit Scott Kazmir well. Ramirez is 8-24 with two walks, two doubles, a triple, a homer, and six RBI off of Kazmir. Rosales is 9-25(.360) with a walk, a homer, and three RBI.

Mitch Moreland ($3,100) is already 2-4 with a homer and four RBI off of Lance McCullers Jr. Adrian Beltre ($3,300) is 2-4 with a double, a triple, and two RBI.

Curt Casali ($3,000) is 1-2 with a walk and a solo homer off of Anibal Sanchez.

Jose Bautista ($4,500) and Josh Donaldson ($4,300) both took Tyler Duffey deep in his start against the Blue Jays last year, but he has a stellar 1.85 ERA in four starts this year.

Carlos Santana ($3,800), he of the two homer night last night, is 3-7 with a walk, a homer, and four RBI against Clay Buchholz.

Jimmy Rollins ($3,800) is 14-31(.452) with three walks, two doubles, two homers, and five RBI against Dillon Gee from their days in the NL East. Todd Frazier ($5,000) is 3-6 with three walks and a solo homer against Gee.

Kris Bryant ($4,400) is 3-4 with a walk,  a double, and three RBI already off of Jake Peavy. Ben Zobrist ($4,500) is 5-19(.263) with a walk, two doubles, two homers, and three RBI off Peavy.

Joc Pederson ($4,500) is 2-5 with a homer and three RBI against Christian Friedrich. Yasmani Grandal ($3,800) is 2-3 with a walk and a solo homer off of Friedrich.
