3. Tyler Glasnow, Pittsburgh Pirates

In the midst of what look like it will be a season-long pursuit of the Chicago Cubs, and with the St. Louis Cardinals hot on their heels, the Pirates will likely be turning to the minors for extra help very soon. One of the most potent weapons they possess is 22-year-old strikeout artist Tyler Glasnow, who has rung up 49 batters in only 38 innings so far this season.

Glasnow is an intimidating presence on the mound, standing at 6-foot-8 and unleashing a hellacious combination of upper-90s fastballs and sweeping curveballs. The biggest question about Glasnow entering the year was whether he could make strides in the control department, and he has for the most part answered that question with a resounding ‘yes’.

Save for one recent start where he walked five in as many innings, Glasnow has been in control this year, allowing 18 walks across those 38 innings. He has lowered his WHIP to 1.18, while also leading the International League in K’s.

Glasnow is in position to make the jump to the Pirates staff much sooner than later, although they would ideally like to give him a little extra time to refine his control.
