6. A.J. Reed, Houston Astros

A.J. Reed is the top potential power threat yet to be promoted, but his wait in the minors should not last too long into June. The imposing 6-foot-4, 270 pounder established himself as superb all-around presence at the plate a year ago, hitting .332 between the Single and Double A levels, while also connecting for 34 home runs, 127 RBI and a .432 on-base percentage.

2016 has not been quite as kind to Reed at Triple A, as he has struggled to a .229 average, before heading to the disabled list due to a hamstring injury. But his power is legit and his track record indicates that he will straighten out at the plate as well.

Reed fits the perfect profile for the bandbox that is Minute Maid park, as he is committed to taking the type of big cuts that so many Astros already unleash with regularity. Current first baseman Tyler White will not provide a roadblock for the team in seeing how Reed translates to the majors, although his most natural ‘position’ is likely designated hitter any way. With Houston failing to repeat its breakout promise of a year ago, Reed will be a welcome addition as they attempt to get back into things in the AL West before it is too late.
