4. The FA Cup will pave the way towards bigger, and better, trophies

Many people will decry the FA Cup as a meaningless trophy, and while it’s certainly not as important as the Premier League, it’s a step in the right direction for a team that endured two consecutive trophyless seasons.

The best counter-argument to this is that Arsenal won the FA Cup back-to-back, yet have nothing else to showcase in their trophy cabinet. But when Arsenal won it, they seemed content with having just that and nothing else. How else can you explain a summer transfer window where the only meaningful acquisition was Petr Cech?

While Arsene Wenger has kept his job this whole time, Manchester United’s appointment of Jose Mourinho just hours after winning the FA Cup indicates that they’re not satisfied with it, and signifies their desire for bigger trophies next season.

Their goal will be to win the Premier League next season, and not just a top four spot. Even though it’s assured that they will compete in the Europa League, it won’t be long before they return to the Champions League, where that will soon be the goal as well.

They’re in a good position to win the Premier League since the burden of the Champions League won’t weigh them down the way it’s weighing Manchester City, or the other top four teams, down. And with all due respect to Leicester City, it’s nearly impossible to repeat in the Premier League era, and they even have better odds of getting relegated next season than winning.

The summer transfer window will be the biggest indicator of it, but with this appointment, Manchester United will be back in a big way.
