A look at the prize money that will be handed out on Saturday for the 2016 running of the Preakness Stakes

Two weeks ago we were treated to the Kentucky Derby for 2016, the most exciting horse race of the entire year. But, things don’t end there when it comes to the pursuit of the Triple Crown. On Saturday, the second leg of the Triple Crown will be run as the Preakness Stakes will be taking place from Pimlico.

Coming into the Kentucky Derby two weeks ago, it was expected by most that Nyquist, who’s undefeated in his career, would be the one coming away with the win. Well, that is exactly what happened, as he turned it on down the stretch to start his path towards that coveted Triple Crown.

Now aside from the glory that you get from winning these races or even coming in at one of the top spot, you also earn a pretty hefty payday for being one of the best thoroughbred horses in the entire world.

This year, the purse for the Preakness Stakes is $1.5 million and 60 percent of that purse will be going to the winner of the 2016 running of the race. Below, you can find the full breakdown of the prize money.

2nd$300,000 (20%)
3rd$165,000 (11%)
