WWE Rumors: Cody Rhodes asks for release from WWE

Popular WWE superstar Cody Rhodes, currently wrestling as Stardust, asked for his release from the WWE on Saturday on his personal Twitter account.

Fan favorite wrestler Cody Rhodes — aka Stardust — has asked for his release from the WWE, he said on Twitter. He did not reveal anything else regarding his decision or his future.

Rhodes is something of a fan favorite and an excellent performer, taking the really eccentric character of Stardust to its extremes after breaking in as something of a pretty-boy character under his stage name Cody Rhodes.

He was involved in the six-man ladder match for the Intercontinental Title at WrestleMania and had a brief feud and a few matches against Apollo Crews as he made his debut after a NXT call up. He has not been seen on television since then, appearing at house shows and wrestling in dark matches.

It was rumored WrestleMania would be his last appearance as Stardust with fans clamoring for him to return to his original persona.

Rhodes was a two-time Intercontinental Champion and a six-time tag team champion in some form. His last tag team with his half brother Goldust helped him win the 2013 Slammy Award for best tag team.

Rhodes is the son of legendary wrestler Dusty Rhodes, who passed away earlier this year. Cody Rhodes paid tribute to his father by using a polka-dotted ladder at WrestleMania. It appears that will be his last major match for the company.

WWE has not yet released a statement on Rhodes’ request.
