It’s official, Louis Van Gaal has been sacked by Manchester United after a tough two year spell with the English giants.

After two years with English club Manchester United, the 64-year-old former Dutch manager has been relived of his duties. It was certanliy no surpirse that Van Gaal would be fired, but the manager has left a touching statement on the Manchester United official website.

In his statement, Van Gaal praised his club for winning the 2016 FA Cup over Crystal Palace and hopes that the title will give the team more hope for next season. He also went on to thank his players and the youths that pushed their way through to the first team.

"I thank my players and wish them well for next season. It has been a pleasure to work with them and it has been particularly rewarding to see so many young players take their chance to break into the first team and excel. I look forward to watching the continued development of these young players next season."

Van Gaal also went to to say that his time with United has been one of the best experiences for him in his 25 years of coaching, saying he has fulfilled a dream of his.

"Having managed in Holland, Spain and Germany, I had always hoped for the opportunity to manage in English football and be part of English culture. Both of these experiences have lived up to expectations and been fantastic."

He finally thanked everyone involved with the club, and team legends Sir Alex Ferguson and Sir Bobby Charlton, who made his last two years special.

With his firing from United, Van Gaal will receive £4,544,000 and an extra £400,000 for winning the FA Cup. The search for the club’s next manager now begins, and their third manager since Ferguson left in 2012. All arrows are pointing to former Chelsea manager Jose Mourinho and it looks like a deal could be struck in the next 48 hours, per Craig Norwood.

With Van Gaal gone and Mourinho in, United will need to re-evaluate where they stand, after finishing fifth in the EPL and just earning a Europa League spot.
