Reports are indicating that Manchester United have an agreement with free agent striker Zlatan Ibrahimovic.
After reportedly terminating manager Louis van Gaal’s contract, Manchester United have reached an agreement to sign Swedish free agent Zlatan Ibrahimovic. The former Paris Saint Germain captain had interest from clubs all over the globe, including several in MLS and China.
According to Dutch paper De Telegraf (translated by the Independent), Ibrahimovic will sign a one-year contract, to be worth around £250,000 a week. Part of that deal would see him have a chance to become an assistant coach and extend his contract a further year. The deal should be announced within the next 48 hours.
Ibrahimovic spent four years in the French capital. He scored 156 goals for in 180 appearances for PSG and lead Ligue 1 in goals last season with 38, 17 more than second place Lyon striker, Alexandre Lacazette. If Ibrahimovic moves to Manchester United, this will be his eighth club in his career and his first stop at the English top flight.
United will need to figure out their coaching situation first, with many reports stating van Gaal has left the club, and former Chelsea manager Jose Mourinho will replace him. The team was supposed to announce the future of the coach this afternoon, but have not made anything official. Reasons behind the delay can be linked to United reaching an agreement to let their manager leave a year early.
The signing of Ibrahimovic, if it does go through, would likely mark the third straight summer in which United have looked to the transfer market to get the team back in contention for titles. The former English champions will hope once they figure out their coaching situation, they can get back to business and have another busy summer.
