NOTE: these picks are based solely on statistics. Some players have never faced their opponents, or have very little experience against them. I am not saying that none of those are good picks. The highest scorer of the day could be someone with no experience against his opponent. This is based on statistical analysis only. If you have a gut feeling, then by all means, follow that. This is not an exact science. The best lineups usually have a mix of proven stats and hot players.
Mike Bolsinger has never faced the Reds, but considering how cold they are, he could be worth a look. Daniel Wright will be making his debut across from Bolsinger in that game.

Best Bets:
Stephen Strasburg ($13,400): We all know that Strasburg gives up hits, but his strikeouts are what keep him among the elite daily fantasy options. Strasburg has struck out 43 Mets in 122 at bats and only allowed 12 runs despite the .246 batting average against. That is an average of more than a strikeout per inning. You will be hard pressed to find better.
Jeff Samardzija ($11,700): Samardzija has dominated the Padres so far in his career. The Padres are hitting only .227 in 110 at bats with just one homer, seven runs, and 31 strikeouts. The homer is by Matt Kemp, who is just 2-10 off of him. The Padres offense is a work in progress, and Samardzija has not allowed more than two runs in his last four starts, his last being against the Padres where he allowed a run on three hits.
Justin Verlander ($11,000): I’m adding another just because this is a small sample size, but given the matchup, Verlander could put up big numbers. The Phillies are hitting a putrid .118 off of Verlander in 34 at bats with just two RBI. The downside? They have only struck out five times. The matchup against Hellickson makes this a very winnable game for Verlander though.
Honorable Mention:
Julio Teheran ($9,400): Teheran has only allowed ten hits in 44 at bats(.227 average) against Milwaukee and has only allowed one run while striking out 11. He is one of the few bright spots on the National League’s worst team. Run support could be hard to come by, but the numbers support using him.
Francisco Liriano ($8,500): Liriano has held the Diamondbacks to a .209 average in 115 at bats with three homers, 11 RBI, and 34 strikeouts. Those numbers are near what the elite tier is posting against today’s opponents. If you can look past this season’s subpar numbers, that is.
Dark Horse:
Shelby Miller ($5,700): Miller’s struggles make him hard to use right now. The Pirates are only hitting .232 off of MIller in 56 at bats with a homer and five runs scored. That isn’t bad. The fact that Miller has only fanned three in 56 at bats is very concerning considering he has been hittable all year long. There is considerable risk, but he could have a decent game.
Next: Who Are The Best Stacks?
You have heard our FanDuel experts Matt Rogers and Brian Tulloch talk about “stacking” pieces of a lineup against certain pitchers. Here are the stacks that could work well on DraftKings today, based on past statistics.
You may want to consider an Indians stack against Chris Sale. The prices are down with them facing an ace, and some have fared well against Sale. Rajai Davis ($2,500) is 8-25(.320) with a walk, three doubles, a triple, and a RBI. Yan Gomes ($2,000) is 6-24 with two doubles and a solo homer. Francisco Lindor ($2,800) is 5-13(.385) with a walk, a double, and a solo homer. Carlos Santana ($2,700) is 12-39(.308) with four walks, a double, a homer, and nine RBI off of Chris Sale.
Here is an alarming stat: David Price has allowed the Rockies six homers and 15 RBI in just 95 at bats. The 23 strikeouts are nice, but that is a whole lot of runs given up. Nolan Arenado‘s ($4,300) only hit in four at bats is a grand slam. Carlos Gonzalez ($3,500) is 2-3 with a walk and a solo homer. Ryan Raburn ($2,900) is 10-30 with three walks, a homer, and four RBI against Price. Mark Reynolds ($3,000) is only 8-34(.235), but he has four walks, a double, three homers, and six driven in against Price.
Anthony Rizzo ($4,500) is 10-22(.455) with a walk, two homers, and four RBI against Michael Wacha. Kris Bryant ($4,700) is 3-10 with a walk, a double, a triple, a homer, and three RBI against Bryant. Jorge Soler ($3,400) is 2-5 with a solo homer against Wacha.
The White Sox have hit five homers off of Josh Tomiln in just 76 at bats. Jose Abreu ($3,600) is 3-5 with a walk, a double, and a solo homer. Austin Jackson ($2,600) is 7-16(.438) with a walk, three doubles, a triple, a homer, and a pair of RBI against Tomlin. Tyler Saladino ($2,700) has a solo homer in three at bats. Alex Avila ($2,600) is just 2-12 against Tomlin, but both of those hits are solo home runs.
The Tigers know Jeremy Hellickson well from his time in the AL. That is not a good thing for Hellickson. Miguel Cabrera ($4,500) is 4-11 with a homer and two RBI. Ian Kinsler ($4,800) is 3-11 with a walk, a homer, and three RBI. Jarrod Saltalamacchia ($3,000) is 8-25(.320) with five walks, three doubles, three homers, and five RBI against Hellickson. Justin Upton ($3,400) is 5-13(.385) with three walks, two doubles, two homers, and four RBI against Hellickson.
Chris Davis ($4,300) is 5-13 with two homers and three RBI against Doug Fister. Pedro Alvarez ($3,000) is 5-9 with two walks, a homer, and two RBI. Adam Jones ($3,700) is 6-17(.353), but only has one RBI to show for it. Manny Machado ($4,300) is 3-6 with a solo homer off Fister.
Andrew Cashner is making his return from the DL against a team that has hit him hard. Brandon Belt ($3,500) is 6-16(.375) with three walks, two doubles, a homer, and four RBI against Cashner. Brandon Crawford ($3,500) is 6-15(.400) with two walks, a homer, and five RBI. Buster Posey ($3,700) is 11-25(.440) with three walks, a double, two homers, and five RBI against Cashner. Denard Span ($3,800) is 5-16(.313) with a walk, a double, and four RBI. Matt Duffy, Angel Pagan, and Joe Panik have also hit Cashner well.
Next: More Notes For 5-24
Neil Walker ($2,900) is 5-14(.357) with a walk, a homer, and two RBI off of Stephen Strasburg.
Paul Goldschmidt ($4,400) is 2-6 with three walks, a homer, and two RBI against Francisco Liriano. Wellington Castillo ($3,300) is 6-17(.353) with six walks, two homers, and five RBI against Liriano.
Colby Rasmus ($3,300) is 6-23(.261) with two doubles, two homers, and four RBI against Chris Tillman. Jason Castro ($2,800) is 3-10 with two walks, two doubles, a homer, and four driven in against Tillman.
Ender Inciarte ($3,300) is 3-5 with a double and a solo homer off of Jimmy Nelson.
Andrew McCutchen ($4,600) is 7-22(.318) with two walks, a double, and two RBI against Shelby MIller. Starling Marte ($4,700) is 5-15 with a walk, a double, two triples, and two RBI against Miller. Given the way Miller has struggled this year, these look like promising plays.
Josh Donaldson ($4,400) is 3-10 with a walk, a double, two homers, and four RBI off Nate Eovaldi. Troy Tulowitzki ($3,700) is 3-11, but he does have a double, a homer, and three RBI.
You likely don’t need another reason to use Khris Davis ($3,800) since he has been on fire anyway, but here’s another: Davis is 3-5 with two homers and three RBI against Nathan Karns.
Randal Grichuk ($3,200) is 3-8 with a triple, a homer, and three RBI against Jason Hammel. Yadier Molina ($3,200) could be worth using as well. He is 7-15 with a walk, three doubles, a triple, and three RBI off Hammel.
Joe Mauer ($3,200) is 8-19(.421) with a double, a homer, and two RBI off of Edinson Volquez.
Dustin Ackley ($3,000) is 6-13(.462) with a walk, two homers, and seven RBI against R.A. Dickey. Mark Teixeira ($3,400) is 6-22(.273) with a double, two homers, and four RBI. Carlos Beltran ($4,100) is only 7-35 off of Dickey, but he has two doubles, a homer, and five driven in.
The Royals just put Alex Gordon, he of two homers off of Ervin Santana, on the disabled list. Not to worry, Eric Hosmer ($4,200) is 4-15(.267) with four walks, a double, two homers, and eight RBI against Santana.
Hanley Ramirez ($4,300) is 11-28(.393) with six walks, five doubles, two homers, and five RBI against Jorge De La Rosa.
