Fantasy Baseball: Waiver Wire Triple Play!
Welcome to Waiver Wire Triple Play, a quick hitting look around the Majors to find the top 3 overlooked players to help your Fantasy Baseball rosters!
Alex Wood – Starting Pitcher (LAD): Over the last 30 days, the top strikeout per game hurlers in all of fantasy baseball have some familiar names but maybe one you would not expect.
- Clayton Kershaw – 10.8
- Max Scherzer – 10.2
- Jose Fernandez – 9.2
- Stephen Strasburg – 9.0
- Madison Bumgarner – 8.0
- Alex Wood – 8.0
Wood has been fantastic over the last month and yet is somehow still un-owned in 53% of Yahoo Fantasy Baseball Leagues. Wood has always been a tremendous asset to your team ERA/WHIP, posting a 2.78 ERA and 1.14 WHIP last season in Atlanta so this jump from Wood is not unexpected.
Wood is posting a 25.4% K rate this season, which is precisely in line with his 2014 season in Atlanta (24.5%) so it is certainly possible we are seeing the 25 year old’s breakout year and best yet, we can get him for free in over 50% of leagues!

Cameron Maybin – Outfielder (DET): Since his return to the big club on May 16 after missing the first month of the season with a shoulder and wrist injury, Maybin has been one of the hottest hitters in all of fantasy baseball. Maybin has a hit in every single one of the seven games he has played, accumulating 14 hits in 24 at bats with one home run and four stolen bases.
If you need cheap speed, remember Maybin swiped 23 bags in 141 games for the Braves last season and makes for a great move for those needing an OF.
Brandon Guyer – Outfielder (TBR): Much less widely owned (only 6% on Yahoo), Guyer has been on fire over the last 2 weeks, taking over as the Rays lead off hitter once Logan Forsythe went on the D.L. with a hairline fracture in his left shoulder blade that will keep him out for a month.
Guyer has also been known as a platoon specialist who hammers left handed pitching, but with the expanded role in the lineup he has seen his production spike going 17 for 52 with 10 runs, 3 home runs, 9 RBI’s and one stolen base over the last 14 days. With a guaranteed role and what looks to be a prime lead off spot, Guyer makes a great add that few players will be on.
