Kansas City Royals third baseman Mike Moustakas was diagnosed with an ACL injury which could see his season come to an end.

One of the MLB’s most dynamic third baseman in Mike Moustakas could see his season cut short. As Bob Nightengale of USA Today is reporting, the Kansas City Royals infielder was diagnosed with a torn ACL:

We’ll have to wait and see if it will end his season, but these types of injuries usually spell nothing but trouble. The injury occurred when he collided with Alex Gordon against the Chicago White Sox earlier in the week. Although Gordon broke his hand on the play, it was Moustakas who drew the short straw on this one.

Moose has always been a fan favorite, and this injury comes at a terrible time, seeing as how he had just returned from the disabled list due to a fractured thumb. He figured to be a key contributor for the defending World Series champions, who are now behind the Chicago White Sox and the Cleveland Indians in the AL Central.

Kansas City’s minor league depth will be tested now, as Moustakas’ immediate replacement will be Cheslor Cuthbert. If they’re lucky, this could be Cuthbert’s breakout season as he has a chance to prove himself. But defending the World Series never comes easy, and the Royals could already be feeling the effects of two deep playoff runs in a row.

Hopefully Moustakas is able to recover soon. The game of baseball is only good with him playing.
