The Warriors were able to keep alive with a huge win at home against the Thunder in Game 5 of the Western Conference Finals

111. 149. 120. 41. Final

It was all or nothing for the Golden State Warriors on Thursday night as the Western Conference Finals in the 2016 NBA Playoffs headed back to Oracle Arena. Trailing the Oklahoma City Thunder 3-1 in the series, a loss would send the defending champions packing while a win would at least keep them alive for a couple more days. The Warriors certainly weren’t planning on dying at home.

Right out of the gate, the Warriors pulled ahead of the Thunder, but there was still a bit of cause for concern considering that Stephen Curry didn’t look too aggressive from the opening tip-off. However, Golden State still managed to cling to the lead through the first quarter and, though the pace an offense picked up in the second quarter, the Warriors’ lead remained as they went into the locker room up eight points.

Oklahoma City tried to make a game of it coming out of the half as Russell Westbrook finally started holding onto the ball and Kevin Durant began finding his offensive rhythm as well. At the same time, though, the Warriors started to hit a groove at the end of the period and the Thunder were only able to get four points back in the quarter.

With Curry on the bench to start the fourth, the Warriors started going on a run behind great play from role players like Marreese Speights in crucial minutes. As Steph did come back in, he was able to deliver some daggers against the Thunder. Though they had some sloppy ball-handling and rebounding in the final minutes, the Warriors were then able to hold on to the lead and pick up the vital win to stay alive in the series.

Three Stars

Stephen Curry, Warriors – 31 points, six assists, seven rebounds, five steals

Kevin Durant, Thunder – 40 points, seven rebounds, four assists, one steal, one block

Andrew Bogut, Warriors – 15 points, 14 rebounds, two assists, two steals, two blocks
