In NBA free agency, big names translate into big money contracts.
NBA free agency is quickly approaching, the negotiating period slated to begin on July 1st, and with that comes a list of big names but even bigger money.
The biggest name on that list right now is Oklahoma City Thunder forward Kevin Durant, who is on the cusp of leading his team to the NBA Finals for a second time. However, due to the league’s “maximum” salary he will get the short end of the stick when it comes to pay because less talented players could potentially earn the same maximum value contract.
Next up, is Golden State Warriors forward Harrison Barnes. While Barnes isn’t currently considered a star-level player he could be getting paid like one very soon. He’s in a great spot because whatever he could be offered from another team, Golden State is likely to match without exceeding its salary cap.
Lastly, Toronto Raptors bigman and Dikembe Mutombo impersonator Bismack Biyombo. This top-10 pick has certainly made a name for himself on the Raptors, especially in this year’s NBA playoffs. The 23-year-old 7-footer has driven up his value and will likely reap the benefits when he signs a new contract this summer.
