5. Dani Carvajal injury hurts Spain defense

Though they’ve suffered at least a minor fall from grace after what transpired in the 2014 World Cup, it’d be foolish to say anything other than Spain is one of the favorites for the Euro 2016 tournament. If they play their game, they have the coaching and talent to beat any team in Europe and any country in the world. However, their defense took a low-key important hit in the Champions League Final—especially if its serious—as Real Madrid defender Dani Carvajal was forced to leave the pitch with an injury.

For starters, that injury really turned the tides for Real in this match. Though they went on to win, Danilo looked lost on the pitch for much of the match in relief of Carvajal, especially in the second half when asked to mark Yannick Carrasco. However, the 24-year-old Carvajal figured to be a key part of the Spanish National Team’s defensive depth heading into Euro 2016. If this injury is anything remotely serious, he’s going to be out and that’s not going to be possible.

While Hector Bellerin should slot in if Carvajal can’t go, there’s a reason as to why the Real Madrid man was getting the nod for the squad and he could have well seen important minutes for Spain in Euro 2016. With one injury in the Champions League Final, though, he’s in danger of not even being on the squad.
