After winning his second UEFA Champions League title in three years, Cristiano Ronaldo told media that he had a vision he was going to score the winning goal.
While Cristiano Ronaldo did not have his most memorable performance on the pitch Saturday evening in Milan, he still found himself with a chance to win the continent’s most prestigious trophy for Real Madrid. Zinedine Zidane elected to gamble and make the Portuguese international his fifth shooter, a move that ultimately paid off.
With Juanfran hitting the post, Ronaldo found himself in the spotlight yet again and made the most of the opportunity. According to him though, he knew that was going to be the case all along.
“I had a vision. I knew I was going to score the winning goal” he said, via Football-Espana.
“I asked [Zinedine Zidane] to let me take the fifth penalty because I was going to score the winning goal.”
The 31-year-old has now won the UEFA Champions League for the third time in his career, and for the second time in the past three years. He was also full of praise for his head coach, who had just taken over for Rafa Benitez in January.
“Zidane has done a phenomenal job. He deserves it, he has humility and I’m happy for him.”
Despite all his club success, though, Ronaldo has yet to lift a significant trophy with his national team. He will get the opportunity this summer in France at Euro 2016. Portugal open the tournament against Iceland on June 14th at 3 p.m. ET.
