Noah Syndergaard was thrown out on Saturday night and he didn’t even hit Chase Utley
Saturday night on national television we were treated to another incredible showdown between the New York Mets and Los Angeles Dodgers. For the Mets, they had their best pitcher on the mound in Noah Syndergaard, making the night all the more special to watch.
Here’s the thing, though: Syndergaard didn’t last all that long, and it had nothing to do with a shaky outing, rather the Chase Utley drama really came to a head.
During Utley’s second at-bat on Saturday night in the third inning, Syndergaard threw behind Utley and he was immediately tossed from the game, sending everyone inside Citi Field into a frenzy. They sort of had a point, seeing as Utley wasn’t even hit.
One of the people who was understandably the most upset was Mets manager Terry Collins, who immediately came rushing out of the dugout after he lost his ace for the night in this crucial game. Of course, he was sent to an early shower not long after.
We knew that this Utley beef was going to come full circle in New York this weekend, the place of the infamous slide from last postseason, but this might have been the wrong call from the umpire seeing as Syndergaard didn’t even make contact to Utley’s body.
"Retaliation? Noah Syndergaard threw behind Chase Utley & was ejected.Terry Collins was livid & got tossed too.https://t.co/LqL4Qax0YS— FOX Sports: MLB (@MLBONFOX) May 29, 2016"
Now, we”ll have to see just how much more this heats the rivalry up Saturday night.
