Ray Rice speaks to Ravens rookies to teach them life lessons
Former Baltimore Ravens running back Ray Rice spoke with the team’s rookies to teach them life management and life lessons.
Ray Rice was one of the best players on the Ravens during his six seasons with the club. He ran for more than 6,000 yards and had 37 touchdowns.
But what people are going to remember most about those six years Rice spent with the Ravens is how his Ravens and NFL career came to an end. Rice was seen on surveillance video punching his then-fiancee, Janay Palmer, who is now his wife and the couple is expecting their second child together.
Rice was suspended, then had his suspension lengthened after the video was made public and was cut from the Ravens and no other NFL team has considered the former Pro Bowl runner.
But the Ravens did bring him back into the organization earlier this week to speak with the team’s rookie class to teach them life management and life lessons.
“Our 27 sessions to our rookies, through our player engagement program, review and teach life management and life lessons,” the team said in a statement. “Ray Rice, who played for the Ravens from 2008 until 2014, delivered an important message that included his story, both the good and the bad. He clearly had the attention of our rookies.”
This is a cautionary tale to be sure as Rice can give a first-person account of how he ruined his NFL career and maybe his words will resonate with some of the rookies.
But I have to think, “don’t hit women” is already an important life lesson that these rookies should have already learned. Maybe seeing Rice in person giving his account will sink in more and have more gravity than if they were to read about it online or see it on tv.
