According to a report, the Toronto Raptors and head coach Dwane Casey will soon begin contract extension talks.
There have been very few teams that were as impressive in the NBA this year as the Toronto Raptors. The young Raptors made noise in the playoffs and came within two games of winning the Eastern Conference.
The team built a culture and their fans proved that they are some of the best in all of professional sports. While the Raptors have some big questions ahead of them, the team has to like where they are at going forward and because of some savvy moves, they will boast the No. 9 overall pick in the 2016 NBA Draft.
The man that leads the team every game, head coach Dwane Casey, proved why he is one of the best coaches in the league and he showed that he can get the most out of the players that others wouldn’t expect to put up big numbers.
With Casey being the guy the Raptors need to lead them, it is no surprise that ESPN’s Marc Stein is reporting that the Raptors and Casey will soon begin contract extension talks for the head coach.
"The Raptors and coach Dwane Casey are expected to soon begin talks on a contract extension, league sources said Friday night after Toronto’s season ended with a 113-87 loss to the Cavaliers in Game 6 of the Eastern Conference finals.Casey has one season left on his current contract at the Raptors’ option for $4 million next season."
Stein also goes on to note that Casey’s new deal should be comparable to that of the one that Portland Trail Blazers head coach Terry Stotts received.
A contract extension has been well deserved for Casey and with the trajectory that the Raptors are on, they should remain competitive near the top of the Eastern Conference for many years to come.
