10 NFL offseason headlines no fan wants to see

9. Terrell Suggs tears Achilles in drill (2010)
It is just as disappointing to see a solid contributor sidelined as it is to see a promising first-rounder injured before his NFL career beings.
Many veteran players have suffered freak accidents in the offseason. In 2010, wide receiver Steve Smith, then a member of the Carolina Panthers, broke his arm in a YMCA flag football game. He recovered in time to play during the regular season.
Baltimore Ravens linebacker Terrell Suggs tore his Achilles tendon during the 2012 offseason. While it was alleged he sustained the injury during a pickup basketball game, Suggs insisted it happened during a conditioning drill.
When news of the injury broke, it was particularly devastating. Suggs was coming off of a career season for which he won NFL Defensive Player of the Year honors after he tallied 70 tackles and 14 sacks. His efforts helped his team allow only 266 points during the regular season, third fewest in the NFL that year.
Achilles injuries generally require a lengthy recovery, but Suggs was able to return to the field just five months after his injury in time for his teams October 21 game. Though Suggs recovered very quickly after his 2012 injury, he was not as lucky after tearing his Achilles during the first regular season game of 2015 that caused him to miss the rest of the season.
