Kevin Durant: ‘Don’t have to worry about me’
By John Buhler
Kevin Durant feels very confident about his offensive game going into Game 7 Monday night versus the Golden State Warriors in the Western Conference Finals.
In what is certainly the biggest game of the 2015-16 NBA season, Game 7 of the Western Conference Finals between the Golden State Warriors and the Oklahoma City Thunder, the Thunder’s All-NBA small forward Kevin Durant exudes immense confidence about his offensive game.
In a press conference leading up to the win-or-go-home game being played at Oracle Arena in Oakland, Durant said, “On the offensive end, you don’t have to worry about me. I’m a professional scorer…I tend to figure things out.”
After seeing his team choke away Game 6 in the final minutes at home in Chesapeake Energy Arena in downtown Oklahoma City on Saturday, this is the type of swagger one would hope to see out of the Thunder’s best scorer.
Durant has won league MVP, led the league in scoring, and has been the best player in the NBA to not be considered the best player in the NBA at any time. Do expect Durant to put on a show in pivotal Game 7 on the road. It will be up to him and All-NBA teammate point guard Russell Westbrook to win in hostile ORACLE to get Oklahoma City back to the NBA Finals for the first time since the strike-shortened 2011-12 NBA season.
Oklahoma City held a 3-1 series lead over top-seeded Golden State in these Western Conference Finals. The Thunder had befuddled the small ball Warriors with their length at times in this series.
However, hero ball on Durant’s part as well as a historic jump-shooting performance from Golden State’s All-NBA shooting guard Klay Thompson has this series all tied up at three entering play on Monday night.
If Durant can put up over 30 points in this crucial Game 7 without enduring a high-volume shooting night then Oklahoma City has a terrific opportunity to slay juggernaut Golden State in this best-of-seven series on Monday night.
