DraftKings Late MLB Picks For May 31

There are 12 night games on Tuesday, which makes this the larger tournament of the day. There are a lot of stats to go through, and a few good options. Let’s find out what the past stats say!

More from DraftKings

NOTE: these picks are based solely on statistics. Some players have never faced their opponents, or have very little experience against them. I am not saying that none of those are good picks. The highest scorer of the day could be someone with no experience against his opponent. This is based on statistical analysis only. If you have a gut feeling, then by all means, follow that. This is not an exact science. The best lineups usually have a mix of proven stats and hot players.

Steven Matz has never faced the White Sox, but Matt Harvey dominated the reeling Sox yesterday. The only Sox player to face Matz is Todd Frazier. The Toddfather hit a solo homer off of him for his only hit in six at bats.

Matt Wisler has never faced the Giants, but the Braves did manage to beat Jeff Samardzija yesterday. Can they help Wisler out as well?

After giving up only four runs in his first four starts, Tyler Duffey has given up 11 runs in his past two. It seems like an enticing matchup in Oakland, but he has never faced them before.

Scott Kazmir has never faced the Cubs, and the ones that have faced him are just 2-21 against him. Ben Zobrist does have three RBI off of him though.

Jon Gray has never faced the Reds, but he gets Jon Moscot, a pitcher fresh off the DL and who has never pitched in Coors Field, and a struggling lineup. That said, this is Coors Field. Use at your own risk.

Best Bets:

Jake Arrieta ($13,000): Yes, Arrieta has dominated the Dodgers too. The Dodgers are only hitting .194 against Arrieta in 72 at bats with two homers and six RBI, but they have struck out 18 times. Did we mention that Arrieta is 9-0 with a 1.72 ERA and 0.90 WHIP? He is a lot of money, but you usually get what you pay for.

Jose Fernandez ($12,400): The Pirates have only racked up 19 at bats on Jose Fernandez. They struck out in ten of them! They have three hits, all singles, and failed to score. It’s a tiny sample size on a night full of suitable options, but it’s hard to ignore a history like this. Even a brief one.

Honorable Mention:

CC Sabathia ($9,000): Wait, aren’t the Yankees playing the Blue Jays? Yes. Yes they are. However, Sabathia has held the Jays to a .207 average in 188 at bats with only three homers, 13 RBI, and an impressive 48 strikeouts. Jose Bautista is 4-34(.118). Josh Donaldson? 5-21(.238). These numbers are legit, though the Yankee offense has scuffled lately.

Drew Smyly ($8,800): The Royals have nearly half of their starting lineup injured, and Smyly has held the current team to a .228 average in 101 at bats with three homers, eight RBI, and an impressive 26 strikeouts. Smyly could wind up scoring as much as the elite tier tonight.

Joe Ross ($8,500): Ross dominated the Phillies back on April 15th. He pitched 7.2 scoreless innings, giving up only three hits and striking out five en route to 28.3 DraftKings points. He could be a great bargain at this price.

Dark Horses:

Mat Latos ($6,700): The Mets are only hitting .235 against Latos in 115 at bats with four homers, 13 RBI, and 28 strikeouts. That said, Lucas Duda, Travis d’Arnaud, and David Wright accounted for two of the homers and eight of the RBI. None of them will be in the lineup. A win could be tough to come by for Latos, but the stats say he could have a very good night for his price.

Hector Santiago ($6,300): Santiago has held the Tigers to a .234 average in 94 at bats with three homers, nine RBI, and a solid 21 strikeouts. He will likely give up a couple of runs, but he has high strikeout potential and is facing Anibal Sanchez, whose ERA is on the wrong side of 6. There is potential for good numbers here.

You have heard our FanDuel experts Matt Rogers and Brian Tulloch talk about “stacking” pieces of a lineup against certain pitchers. Here are the stacks that could work well on DraftKings today, based on past statistics.

The Brewers are hitting .354 in 127 at bats against Mike Leake. You know there are some stack options here! Scooter Gennett ($3,800) is 7-19(.368) with a walk, two doubles, and three RBI against Leake. Jonathan Lucroy ($4,400) is 15-32(.469) with three walks, two doubles, a homer and six RBI. Alex Presley could be a great way to go cheap at $2,000. Presley is 9-21(.429) with a walk, a double, a triple, and two solo home runs against Leake. Ryan Braun and Aaron Hill have also homered off of Leake despite little success otherwise.

In what will likely be a high scoring game in Milwaukee, stacking some Cardinals could pay off as well. Wily Peralta has a 6.62 ERA on the year, and the Cardinals are hitting .318 with eight homers off of him in his career. Matt Carpenter ($5,000) is 16-35(.457) with four walks, four doubles, three homers, and seven RBI against Peralta. Randal Grichuk ($4,200) is 3-6 with a homer and two RBI. Matt Holliday ($4,200) is 10-28(.357) with three walks, two homers, and seven RBI.

Jeff Locke shut out the Marlins yesterday, so a stack against Gerrit Cole, no matter how small, seem counter-intuitive. Justin Bour ($3,100) is 2-6 with a solo homer against Cole. Giancarlo Stanton ($4,200) is worth a shot if he can play. Stanton is 3-8 with a walk, two doubles, a homer, and two RBI. Christian Yelich ($3,800) is also 3-8 against Cole, but he has two homers and three RBI.

J.A. Happ pitched very well against the Yankees just five days ago, allowing only one run in seven innings while picking up the win. The past stats still favor the Bombers, so they are worth noting. Carlos Beltran ($4,000) is 9-30 with two walks, a double, three homers, and six RBI against J.A. Happ. He may be the best hitter of the afternoon. Brett Gardner ($3,500) is 5-17(.294) with two doubles, a triple, and a solo homer against Happ. Aaron Hicks ($3,400) is 3-8 with a homer and two RBI off of Happ.

Bryce Harper ($4,700) is 6-10 with two homers and four RBI against Aaron Nola already. Anthony Rendon ($3,800) is 3-8 with a walk and a solo homer. Jayson Werth ($3,000) is 3-11 with a homer and four driven in against Nola.

Carl Crawford may crack the starting lineup tonight. Crawford ($2,400) is 5-14(.357) with two walks, two doubles, a homer, and three RBI off of Jake Arrieta. Adrian Gonzalez ($3,200) is 5-18(.278) with a walk, a double, a homer, and two driven in.

Eric Hosmer ($3,700) is 5-19(.263) with a walk, a double, a homer, and a pair of RBI against Drew Smyly. Jarrod Dyson ($3,000) is 3-7 with two RBI against Smyly.

David Ortiz ($5,500) is 6-13(.462) with two walks, three doubles, two homers, and four RBI off of Kevin Gausman. Xander Bogaerts ($5,100) has a good chance at extending his hitting streak as well. Bogaerts is 5-14(.357) with a double and a RBI off Gausman.

Miguel Cabrera, Nick Castellanos, and J.D. Martinez have all hit home runs against Hector Santiago despite being a combined 7-31 off of him.

Neil Walker ($3,900) is 7-25(.280) with four walks, a double, two homers, and four RBI against Mat Latos in his career.

Corey Dickerson ($3,800) is 3-6 with a solo homer off of Dillon Gee from when they were both in the National League.

Albert Pujols ($4,300) is 7-22(.318) with two walks, two doubles, a homer, and two RBI against Anibal Sanchez. Mike Trout and Yunel Escobar have also taken Sanchez deep despite not having other success against him.

Matt Wieters ($3,600) is 2-5 with a homer and two RBI off of Eduardo Rodriguez.
