DraftKings Early MLB Picks For June 1

There are only four afternoon games on this getaw Wednesday, which makes this the smaller tournament of the day. There are a few good options. Let’s find out what the past stats say!

More from DraftKings

NOTE: these picks are based solely on statistics. Some players have never faced their opponents, or have very little experience against them. I am not saying that none of those are good picks. The highest scorer of the day could be someone with no experience against his opponent. This is based on statistical analysis only. If you have a gut feeling, then by all means, follow that. This is not an exact science. The best lineups usually have a mix of proven stats and hot players.

Jacob deGrom has never faced the White Sox, but the two former National League players on the roster, Todd Frazier and Jimmy Rollins, and a combined 1-10 with three strikeouts. Zach Davies has never faced the Cardinals, but he has not given up less than two runs in any start. That’s a pretty big risk against that offense.

Sean Manaea and Pat Dean will face off for the first time against their respective teams as well. Dean has yet two give up more than two runs in any of his four starts, but Manaea has had a mixture of good and bad outings. If you want to gamble, Dean seems to be safer.

Best Bet:

Cole Hamels ($10,400): Hamels is the highest priced player of the afternoon, partially because of his history against Cleveland. The current Indians are just 9-51(.176) with four runs scored an 14 strikeouts. Perhaps more impressive than that is the fact that they have just two extra base hits, both doubles by Jason Kipnis. This has the makings of a good outing for Hamels.

Honorable Mention:

Jaime Garcia ($8,400): Garcia has held the Brewers to a .188 average in 149 at bats with just two homers, 12 RBI, and a nice 35 strikeouts. One of the homers is by Ryan Braun, who is a dismal 8-49(.163) against Garcia with nine strikeouts.

Dark Horse:

Trevor Bauer ($7,200): Bauer has been up and down this year, but he has held the Rangers to a .182 average in 33 at bats. He has allowed six runs, but has struck out ten. However, the guy that hit the home run off of him and drove in half the runs, Rougned Odor, is still suspended. Bauer doesn’t look like such a bad option after all.

You have heard our FanDuel experts Matt Rogers and Brian Tulloch talk about ā€œstackingā€ pieces of a lineup against certain pitchers. Here are the stacks that could work well on DraftKings today, based on past statistics.

There are no statistically backed stacks, but the Twins have a much higher average and slugging percentage against left handed pitching. They get the young but inconsistent southpaw Sean Manaea today.

Jason Kipnis ($3,300) is 2-3 with two doubles against Cole Hamels. Those are the only extra base hits allowed to the current Indians roster by Hamels!

Martin Maldonado ($2,400) is worth using if he gets the start. Maldonado is 4-13(.308) with two walks, a double, a homer, and three RBI against Jaime Garcia. If the Brewers do elect to go with the hot Jonathan Lucroy ($3,900), fear not. Lucroy is 10-37(.270) with a walk, a double, and three RBI off Garcia.

Asdrubal Cabrera ($3,300) is only 3-13(.231) against Miguel Gonzalez, but he has a double and a solo homer to show for it. Yoenis Cespedes ($4,600) is 6-13(.462) with a walk and two RBI. Alejandro De Aza ($3,100) could be a nice sleeper option if he is in the lineup. De Aza is 4-7 with a homer and four RBI off of Gonzalez.
