Washington Wizards. Randy Wittman. 5. player. 142. . Former Head Coach

Replacing Casey with former Washington Wizards head coach Randy Wittman would have all in Toronto livid about Ujiri’s decision at head coach. However, Wittman does offer something that Casey simply cannot do as an NBA head coach: win on the road in the NBA Playoffs.

In the two years that Wittman’s Wizards made the Eastern Conference Playoffs, Washington was able to advance to the Eastern Conference Semifinals by beating supposedly superior teams on the road. In 2014, the Wizards topped Tom Thibodeau’s Chicago Bulls. In 2015, Washington clobbered Casey’s Raptors in a first round sweep.

Wittman isn’t without his limitations as a head coach. His teams in Washington never really solidified a deep rotation. Though he does get good play from both his front court and back court, Washington rarely gelled in both areas at the same time. Ushering in a pace and space era in the United States’ capital was ultimately the one adjustment Wittman could not make in 2015-16, leading to his firing.

Being that Wittman coached in the Eastern Conference, he would be very familiar with what it takes to advance in the NBA Playoffs in a conference that features LeBron James. Wittman would be more of a lateral move from Casey than anything in Toronto, but his playoff experience and passion for coaching may be beneficial if the Raptors organization goes in this direction.
