Boston Celtics’ general manager Danny Ainge has infrequently selected international players in the NBA draft, so it’s certainly a bit odd to see them go with two overseas prospects in the first round. However, Furkan Korkmaz would provide the Celtics with a potentially impressive wing scorer and quality outside shooter, two needs on Boston’s current roster. Korkmaz has become a first round prospect as a result of his strong play for Anadolu Efes in the BSL in Turkey, and for the role he’s played on Turkish youth teams in FIBA competitions.

The 18-year-old has made more than 40 percent of his three-point attempts over all competitions in the past two seasons. His release is a bit awkward, but he has had effective results with it so far. Korkmaz is also capable of attacking close outs along the perimeter and is a good distributor with the ball in his hands. Defensively, Korkmaz has the length to play either wing position, but at 6-7 and only 185 pounds, he’ll need to add strength in order to do battle with some of the league’s strongest small forwards.

With Evan Turner potentially on the way out and one of the league’s worst three-point shooting rosters, the Celtics could use a prospect who can provide some scoring from the wing. Korkmaz makes sense.

To read more about Furkan Korkmaz, <a href=.
